Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a non-remedial approach to learning that integrates what to learn with how to learn.
SI consists of free, regularly scheduled, voluntary, out-of-class study sessions facilitated by trained peers. SI is implemented in high-risk courses in consultation with academic staff and is supported and evaluated by a trained supervisor.
The purpose of SI is to improve retention within historically difficult courses, increase student grades in historically difficult courses and grow the graduation rate.
Who leads SI sessions?
SI Leaders are students who have taken the class before, earned a high grade in the course and have completed a vigorous training process.
What does a SI session consist of?
SI Leaders guide students through difficult course concepts during sessions, sharing best-practice study habits. They do not lecture, hand out notes or go over homework.
When are SI sessions held?
Each SI Leader schedules their sessions at a different time. Check out the schedule below for session times, locations and details.
