Information Technology Services (IT Services, ITS or just plain IT) is responsible for all computing, networking, internet, audio/visual and telecommunications services on campus.

Student Helpdesk

For students, by students, no extra charge!

Housed in IT Services, the Student Helpdesk is a full-service technical support shop where Western students can bring all of their computing problems, including any and all of your personal devices (game consoles included) and we will do our best to get them working, all for no extra charge!

Personal Devices
Internet connection (computers, phones, tablets, etc.)
Virus and malware removal
Help with game consoles- Xbox, Playstation, Wii, etc.
Computer hardware issues, including installing new hard drives
Software installation, including full system restoration
And more!

If you are bringing in your computer, make sure to include your power supply, cables and/or any software you want us to install.

We cannot break the law.

Please don’t ask us to participate in anything illegal, such as software piracy or downloading copyrighted material that you do not own. It is important that if you bring a computer to campus you have the original installation media and necessary installation codes for re-installation should it be necessary.

Invalidate your warranty.

In many cases it will void the warranty of your system if we remove certain components or open the system case. We’ll do our best to help with hardware diagnosis and repair within these guidelines.

Help Requests

Have a problem with the network in your room? Printer broken in a lab? Personal laptop not working? Submit a work order or visit us in Taylor 125. Remember, the more detail you can provide, the more easily we can assist.

Internet Access

It is critical that students have easy access to the internet and other online resources. To help make that happen, we have deployed a wi-fi network that you can access 24x7x365 from anywhere on campus.

Computer Labs

Student Computer Labs

IT Services maintains a number of computing labs for students.

The computers in these labs, which are located throughout campus, have all the software that is in used in the courses on campus. The exact mix of computing equipment varies (see below). The labs are maintained through funding from the Student Computer Fee. In most cases, only students can use these computers.

Hours of operation are determined by the hours of the building in which the lab is housed.

Our Mission

The Department of Information Technology Services partners with the Western Colorado University community to evaluate, implement and manage technology resources to enrich the learning and life experience of our students, augment academics and teaching, facilitate business operations, enhance the campus environment and contribute to the overall mission of the University.

Digital Millennium Copyright Act Designated Agent

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act, signed into law on Oct. 28, 1998, amended the United States Copyright Act, Title 17 of the U.S. Code, to provide in part certain limitations on the liability of online service providers (OSPs) for copyright infringement. Subsection 512(c)of the Copyright Act provides limitations on service provider liability for storage, at the direction of a user, of copyrighted material residing on a system or network controlled or operated by or for the service provider, if, among other things, the service provider has designated an agent to receive notifications of claimed infringement by providing contact information to the Copyright Office and by posting such information on the service provider’s website in a location accessible to the public. The provision of information to the Copyright Office about the service provider’s designated agent is a condition for reliance on the limitations on liability for service providers.
