As part of $15 million in scholarship funds for the 2018-2019 cycle, the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative (COSI) will grant Western $11,185. This funding will provide financial support for current and incoming Western students, helping them continue to utilize all the resources and opportunities Western can offer.
“In its five years of serving students, COSI shines as a national model for public-private partnership,” said Angie Paccione, Ph.D. executive director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education. “More than 2,800 COSI students have already earned a credential or degree since the program’s inception, and we look forward to expanding even more opportunity through this latest round of grants.”
At Western, COSI funds go a long way towards making a quality education affordable for all students, regardless of the economic background.
“Coming for a low-income family, I understand the hardships of trying to pay for college,” Alex Alejandre, Western Admissions Counselor and Western Slope Recruiter said. “Scholarships like COSI made is possible for me to go to college and graduate with little to no debt, so I am happy to hear Western students will have the same opportunity as me.”
Depending on their program and financial need, Western students are eligible for COSI funds to help pay over the duration of their time on campus. Altogether, the funds bring students from all walks of life to Gunnison for a quality education.
