Western Colorado University has been recognized by several organizations this year for its commitment to providing a top-notch educational experience to every Mountaineer.
Western was included in U.S. News & World Report’s 2020 regional and national “Top Public Universities” list. This list ranks schools “according to their performance across a set of widely accepted indicators of excellence,” including test scores of admitted students, student-faculty ratio, graduation rate and job placement after graduation. It was also highlighted as a “Top Performer on Social Mobility,” a distinction given to schools for “advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of disadvantaged students awarded with Pell Grants,” according to the U.S. News website.
Western once again made an appearance on College Raptor’s “Hidden Gems in the Southwest” list for a third year in a row. This list is a compilation of small schools that have shown superiority when analyzed for selectivity, financial health, academic rigor and student success.
The university is also receiving praise for achieving high student success rates after graduation. Zippia, a career search engine, recently ranked Western as one of the top ten best colleges in Colorado for job placement.
In addition, Western has been recognized this year by Colleges of Distinction, Forbes and Great Value Colleges. It is consistently lauded for providing individualized learning opportunities to every student while remaining affordable. Western provides a full liberal arts curriculum and offers a selection of more than 100 areas of study, including new computer science and engineering programs. Its scenic location on the Western Slope of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains adds diverse outdoor recreational activities to the list of unique opportunities available to Mountaineers.
