Disciplinary Outcomes

Passive Disciplinary Outcomes include disciplinary sanctions that are given to a student due to misconduct in which the student has little or no control of the outcome. Examples include, but are not limited to: warnings, conduct probation, parental notification, fines, suspension and expulsion (dismissal).

Active Disciplinary Outcomes include disciplinary sanctions in which the student must take greater responsibility for the outcome. Examples include, but are not limited to: service projects, restitution projects, service hours, written assignments, specific interventions, online courses, program attendance, program facilitation and activities or projects.

Violations of Community Standards fall in to the following categories of severity.

The Policies and Community Standards of Conduct at Western Colorado University has been established to promote and protect the core mission and values of the University.  The student conduct process is designed to be a learning experience that facilitates student engagement in responsible conduct that reflects credit upon and models positive citizenship among both the University and greater community.  By maintaining a Policies and Community Standards of Student Conduct, the University affirms the rights, protections, responsibilities and expectations of students regarding their behavior as part of the academic community.

Academic Misconduct

Incidents regarding academic misconduct, such as incidents of cheating and plagiarism are guided by the Division of Academic Affairs. There are specific policies and procedures in place to manage academic integrity concerns. Academic Affairs may be contacted here, at 970.943.3045 and in Taylor Hall 322.

Behavioral Misconduct

Incidents regarding non-academic misconduct, such as alcohol and controlled substance use, noise/disturbances in the community and behaviors in the residence halls, are guided by the Policies and Standards of Conduct through the Division of Student Affairs Student. The Handbook contains information regarding specific policies and procedures to manage non-academic concerns. Student Affairs may be contacted here, at 970.943.2232 and in Taylor Hall 301.
