Q&A With Professor Washer
How did you discover Western?
I have visited Crested Butte several times and have taken note of Western. I teach full-time at Creighton University in Omaha and can take a sabbatical every seven years. I thought that it would be nice to teach a class or two at Western while also spending time hiking, fishing, cycling, climbing, etc. Fortunately, things have worked out, and I will spend the fall of 2019 at Western teaching an investments class.
What are some of the highlights of your career?
First and foremost I have had wonderful students throughout my career. Work with bright, hard-working young people is a dream come true. I was honored to be the “Graduate Faculty Member of the Year” at Creighton in 2013. I have also published over 30 peer-reviewed articles that have appeared in journals such as Financial Analysts Journal, Journal of Financial Planning, Journal of Banking and Finance. My work has also been cited in Barron’s and USA Today.
What most excites you about your field?
The thing that excites me about finance is that if you save and invest, your money can work for you and you can focus more on things that bring you joy. I really enjoy helping people plan their financial future.
What is your favorite thing about the Gunnison Valley?
I think this area is absolutely gorgeous and there is so much to do.
