Biography
Jackie Lynn Gleason is the Coordinator of the Master of Arts in Educator Effectiveness (MAEE) and lecturer in the Education Department at Western Colorado University. Coordinating the MAEE allows Dr. Gleason to work with educators on their professional goals through action research in their classrooms. With a background as a teacher of social studies and special education and a special education administrator, Dr. Gleason brings a wide variety of “in the field experiences” to share with her students. She teaches courses at Western in the areas of action research, educational technology, social studies and curriculum.
Dr. Gleason’s areas of research and professional development focus on technologies that assist people with disabilities. She has delivered presentations on Universal Design for Learning, digital accessibility, and online course development at conferences/webinars such as Accessing Higher Ground, Texas Distance Learning Association, Focus on Higher Education: University Business Technology, Mid-American Association of Computers in Education, 3Play Webinar Series, National University Technology Network, and Higher Education Technology Leadership. Dr. Gleason has been named One of the Top Five Webinar Speakers for 3Play Media, and she received an award for Outstanding Commitment to Excellence and Innovation in Distance Learning, TxDLA.
Dr. Gleason’s professional goals include how to incorporate Universal Design for Learning principles into online courses to meet every student’s instructional needs no matter what their prior experiences in education and society have been. Her teaching philosophy centers around the progress of learning, not the product. The path you take toward knowledge is more meaningful than the destination.
