How did you discover Western?
I discovered Western through a friend. They mentioned that they were looking into Western for athletics and that there were a lot of things to do outside around the school, so I looked it up. Not long afterward, I scheduled a visit to Western and immediately fell in love with the campus and the Gunnison Valley.
What are some of the highlights of your time at Western?
Even though I am only a sophomore, I have already been able to have a few incredible opportunities arise. A few in particular are going to Provo, Utah through Community Council for a leadership conference, going to the Colorado Emergency Management Conference, and meeting former Secretary of State John Kerry.
What most excites you about your major?
I want to give back to land that I have come from. I was raised on a ranch and as a result I have developed a deep appreciation for the environment. Pursuing a degree in Environment and Sustainability is allowing me to become more knowledgable and aware of the history and current events which shape the earth. I hope to use this knowledge and information to communicate to others how they can continue enjoying the earth’s resources in a sustainable manner.
What is your favorite thing about the Gunnison Valley?
I love the community of the valley. People check in with one another and encourage one another to do the best they can in their various pursuits. It is solely because of the support of community members both on and off campus that I have been able to pursue and enjoy the various endeavors which I have invested myself into since coming here.
