How did you discover Western?
My brother toured Western when he was going into his senior year of high school. I fell in love with Western as he was talking about the school. Western ended up not being the right fit for him, but when I toured the school, I knew this is where I wanted to be.
What are some of the highlights of your time at Western?
I joined the Trail Running team and that has given me the opportunity to have some experiences that I wouldn’t have otherwise such as running up Mt. Sneffels or exploring new parts of the Gunnison Valley. I also have had a lot of fun hanging out with friends whether it’s just a movie night or general shenanigans around the valley.
What most excites you about your major?
As a math major, I get to spend a lot of time problem solving and working through difficult problems. I find math super interesting, and I love to find new ways to apply mathematical concepts. As someone who struggles with reading and writing, I find mathematical equations to be a reprieve because they are a universal language that can be used to communicate with anyone. Math is the foundation of the universe; learning and appreciating math can help you appreciate things that you would not otherwise notice about the world.
What is your favorite thing about the Gunnison Valley?
My favorite thing about the Gunnison Valley is all the outdoor recreation here. There’s always something to do here with Blue Mesa, Crested Butte and all the trails throughout the entire valley. This whole area has beautiful scenery and some of the most gorgeous sunsets I have seen in my life. Being from just outside of Denver, living in a place with less light pollution, I’m able to appreciate the beauty of the stars at night
