How did you discover Western?

I discovered Western by learning about its Mountain Sports Program, in which I race and train for both the Trail Running and Skimo teams.

What are some of the highlights of your time at Western?

These activities have allowed me to compete far and wide, from Canada, Austria, and Spain for World Champions, I’ve been fortunate to compete at a high level and study in a 3+2 program which goes hand-and-hand with professional athletics of the outdoor industry.

What most excites you about your major?

The ROE field allows me to have incredible learning experiences in the field and on campus. We’re almost always involved with an organization on campus regarding teaching and accessibility, yet we partner with other organizations to complete field activities and trips such as rafting in Dinosaur National Monument or backcountry ski trips.

What is your favorite thing about the Gunnison Valley?

How accessible the outdoors is. There are trails from campus that you can take for endless miles, Hartman’s Rocks only a 5-minute drive away, and so, so much more in every direction. It suits nearly all activities, trial running, mountain biking, skiing, hiking, camping, fishing, etc. There is something for everyone!
