How did you discover Western?
I grew up in Colorado and aside from Western’s affordability, I was enticed to come here because of the small class sizes, as well as the beautiful scenery around the valley.
What are some of the highlights of your time at Western?
Some of my highlights have been getting to know many of the incredible professors here at Western, collecting water samples around the valley and gaining experience with instrumentation to test for metal concentrations. I also loved getting to live in Gunni last summer and camping, hiking, climbing and biking with friends.
What most excites you about your major?
I love being able to understand the “behind-the-scenes” of how things work, both in the physical world, as well as within the human body. I think it’s so cool how so many concepts can be explained with integrals and potassium iron channels in the body. I love how everything I am learning is applicable to everyday actions and life. I also find it very exciting how my major gives me many options for future career paths and endeavors.
What is your favorite thing about the Gunnison Valley?
My favorite thing about the Gunnison Valley is definitely the people. I have never felt so at home in a community. I love walking into a restaurant, or downtown at the farmers market and running into professors, peers, and the local grocery store clerks and baristas. There are so many friendly faces and, in my experience, people are always willing to help each other out.
