How did you discover Western?
Friends had attended Western in the past and had told me about their experiences. The location in the mountains and close to many outdoor activities doesn’t hurt either.
What are some of the highlights of your time at Western?
Highlights of my time at Western have been being able to find an educational path that will lead me to a career that will involve my passions and interests either in the National Park Service or a path that I am not even yet aware of. In joining the EPIC community, I have also been able to find time to get involved on campus which has helped me in feeling like a part of the Western community even though I do not live on campus or in Gunnison.
What most excites you about your major?
I am most excited about being a History major with a Public History emphasis and Anthrolpology minor because I am gaining an amazing amount of knowledge that will help me after I graduate. I love learning about environmental history, and past cultures and societies because that can be significant in understanding our society as a whole today. I also think that the foundations of my education will help me work within the National Park Service or in conservation after I graduate.
What is your favorite thing about the Gunnison Valley?
I can’t choose a favorite thing about the Gunnison Valley! I love the amount and variety of mountain biking trails in Crested Butte and the outskirts of Gunnison. If I have any free time in the winter, I’ll enjoy a good day out in the back country on my skis enjoying the views with like minded folks. I also appreciate how much this valley values our public lands and conserving our most precious resources.
