Two recent graduates of Western Colorado University were profiled in the 2018 edition of Careers in Professional Selling magazine. Canyon Mueller ’18 and Elizabeth Beggs ’19 each were profiled in a “The New Faces of Sales” segment.
Mueller was a Business Administration major with emphases in Finance and Management. He works in Seattle for Mutual of Omaha as an Employee Benefit Sales Representative.
“As a sales rep, I work directly with brokerages and businesses to create benefit packages (Life, Health, Disability, etc.) that are best suited for the company’s goals,” Mueller told Careers in Professional Selling. “We help businesses protect employees and their families while increasing employee retention. My position is built on positive relationships and entrepreneurial pursuits.”
Mueller also shared some advice for current students.
“My advice is to find how each class can be used in your career and in life—each class offers something if you dive in,” Mueller said. “Use all resources available to you—teachers, faculty, friends, parents, community—to get the most out of your education.”
Beggs was a Business Administration major with emphases in Marketing and Innovation, Creativity & Entrepreneurship. She works as a Sales Development Representative for Aircall.
“Sales has opened my eyes to the power of conversation,” Beggs told Careers in Professional Selling. “You become aware of miniscule elements that form a strong relationship through communication.”
Careers in Professional Selling magazine is an annual magazine that recaps the National Collegiate Sales Competition (NCSC) and promote sales professionalism. It also features articles of interest to college students thinking about a career in sales.
Mueller competed in the NCSC in 2017, when he placed third in the Speed Selling competition.
