Music, stories, inspirations come to Western

Music, stories, inspirations come to Western

The evening’s program of music, life stories and in-the-moment inspirations is free, and the public is cordially invited to attend.

Gallagher, internationally acclaimed singer, songwriter, actress and storyteller, adds an unusual twist to her music—her instrument of choice is the harp. She handily dispels the stereotypical image that surrounds the harp by playing music that ranges from wailing Blues to Latin grooves, from touches of Celtic to Classical inspirations and from swinging Jazz to richly varied contemporary Americana/folk/roots.

Gallagher presents an evening of fun, engaging and unique songs and stories of life. With the many facets of daily life as her muse, Gallagher creates an engaging, vibrant living tapestry of songs and stories, from heartfelt to humorous, that touch a collective spirit with her audiences.

For nearly 40 years, Gallagher has captivated audiences at home in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, where she is affectionately known as The Adirondack Harper, and abroad. Her tours have taken her across the United States and Canada, with several tours sponsored by The National Endowment for the Arts. She has performed as a featured artist with six-time Grammy winners, The Chieftains.

Gallagher will be joined for part of the show by her husband Dennis Gallagher a on 9-string guitar. The harp and guitar original pieces are unique and engaging. Dennis composes most of the music, but also includes original arrangements of traditional tunes, using a variety of unique open tunings. Dennis has just release his first recording, Boldly Going Nowhere, on their indie label Singing Strings.
