Transfer Courses
College-level academic courses with grades of C- or better, completed at an institution accredited by a regional accrediting agency, are generally accepted. Western accepts up to 90 credits, combined total, from accredited institutions, military credit, AP, IB and CLEP exam. Use the Transfer Course Lookup page to see how your credits from another school may transfer to Western. Comprehensive information regarding transfer policies may be found in the University Catalog.
Questions regarding how transfer credit is applied to Western course equivalents may be directed to the Office of the Registrar, registrar@western.edu or 970.943.7012. Course equivalency disputes may be handled through processes defined by institutional Academic Due Process, as defined in the University Catalog. Furthermore, if a dispute cannot be resolved internally, students are at liberty to file a formal complaint with the Colorado Department of Higher Education at highered.colorado.gov.
Transfer Course LookupTransferring Grades
Western does not transfer grades from other institutions. Your grade point average will be calculated based solely on your performance in courses taken at Western.
Transferring from Colorado Schools
Western participates in Colorado’s gtPathways Program. For students transferring from another Colorado institution, gtPathways guarantees the transfer of statewide approved transfer courses and offer specific benefits for those completing an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree. For more info about the gtPathways Program, visit highered.colorado.gov.
Western has also developed transfer guides, available on request, which can help guide course selection at Colorado community colleges.
Credit for Military Service
Military service credit is evaluated when official copies of transcripts for military schools are received. Army, Navy and Marine personnel submit a Joint Service Transcript (JST). Air Force personnel submit a Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Transcript. Courses are evaluated according to the American Council on Education (ACE) Guidelines. A maximum of 25 semester hours of credit is counted toward a baccalaureate degree.
