Victoria Goedjen

After I graduate from WSCU I would like to stay in the Gunnison area for a couple of years because I really like it here. I haven’t gotten a lot of a chance to explore Colorado, because I’m from Wisconsin.

WSCU is right for me because it is a home away from home. Everyone here is really friendly and I like the community aspect of the University and of Gunnison. WSCU is different from bigger schools because I feel that there are more cliques at bigger schools, but at WSCU everyone is welcome in the campus community. I actually came to WSCU first as a part of a national student exchange program and I loved it so much that I actually transferred from my original school to WSCU after the exchange ended. WSCU was a change from my old school and I love the mountains here. There are definitely a lot of new experiences at WSCU that I could not have had at home.

Outside of class I like to country dance and I am an active member of the Circle K community-building organization supported by the Kiwanis. On campus I am also a member of WSCU’s Dance Team, and I am also an active member of WSCU’s psychology club Psi Chi.

My favorite thing about WSCU is that it is like a big family. Since I work off-campus I also have gotten to know a lot of community members in Gunnison as well. Everyone at WSCU and in Gunnison is so welcoming and open; they all accept you and I’m friends with everyone that I have met here. It’s cool to hear people’s stories because a lot of people who are here were not born and raised here; they came here of a reason.

My favorite professors here are Dr. Suzy Coykendall and Dr. Scott Cohn. Dr. Coykendall is very quirky and fun, and Dr. Cohn pushes me to be the best that I can be.
