Academic ClubsArt LeagueThe Art League serves as the official student art guild. The Art League acts as an advisory panel to provide resources, space and support staff to enrich Western’s confluence of Visual Art events and cultural endowment. This is an open invitation to encourage students to participate and enjoy experiential art activities. The Art League purpose is to create cultural convocations, gallery exhibits, Art workshops, culture field trips and creative experiences for the students and the community. Chemistry ClubAdvisor: Jarral Ryter Website: Chemistry Club English Club (Wordhorde)WordHorde brings together students, faculty, and community members who all share a passion for both the spoken and written word. Coordinated by students in the English program, Wordhorde offers bi-weekly open-mic events where a featured performer -- a local, regional, or sometimes nationally recognized author -- headlines an evening of poetry, stories, music, theatrics, and comedy. This group of talented filmmakers and media enthusiasts exists to educate students from all majors and provide opportunities to create film and media productions. These productions may vary from film, to Youtube.com broadcasts, and pod-casts. It offers two online editions and a four-color hard copy each spring. The Pathfinder also offers scholarships to those students demonstrating outstanding skill in visual arts and creative writing. Website: Pathfinder Peak ProductionsStudents have a unique chance to be employed by Peak Productions, an artistic and producing board. Students participate in every aspect needed to mount full-scale theatrical productions. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the program, many theatre students also participate in film, radio, and journalism. In addition, theatre students participate in regional conferences and in the greater Gunnison community doing such exciting projects as devising original theatre for education and working in two local community theatres. We are a non-partisan club that aims to have dialogue and discussion about relevant political topics. We plan to sponsor a film series, bring in speakers and have roundtable discussions on campus. Website: Sociology Gamma Chapter of Tri Beta- BiologyTriBeta is an honorary and professional society for students of the biological sciences. Its activities are designed to stimulate interest, scholarly attainment and investigation in the biological sciences. It is a national society affiliated with the American Association for the Advancement of the Sciences. The Gamma Chapter at Western State College was founded in 1925 and is one of three hundred chapters in the nation.
