VI. Discussion Items

· Shred Fest Bill (Below)

o Since it will be on campus, there will be less costs than before. We are still receiving money from different companies and tons of free stuff. FreeSkier still the main ski sponsor, and we are still working with Colorado Boarder to secure a small sponsorship.

§ Austin: How is it going to work on the lawn?

· We plan on doing a scaffolding design, hopefully with real snow, maybe trucking in snow. We are designing it this week to determine the runs. Most likely one run with a rail, box and rider’s choice.

§ Ciera: It wasn’t in your budget for how much you were giving FreeRide for the rails?

· We are trying to start an account to hold funds to maintain the rails for the park. It doesn’t cost a lot of money to maintain them, but we are still setting aside some money.

§ Ciera: How are you going to pay for snow to be trucked in?

· Truck it in from across the street

§ Ciera: Did you consider a playlist?

· Not really, students like DJs because of the vibe it brings, it will be a well-known DJ from Denver DJ Shares and Matt Bartholemew. Costs are to get him here from Denver.

· Also, we are calling this Shred Fest sponsored by Western State ROE Class 398.

§ Walker: Do you have 20 participants? If open registration, there will probably be a lot more

· We are actually expecting a lot more, the 20 was from when it was going to be at CB. The set-up will plan to have an open ride at 5, and then the best certain number will advance.

§ Noah: Are you making new banners?

· There are no previous banners so yes.

§ Ciera: To borrow rails, write a proposal. Have you?

· One of the people we are working with rides with them, have already gotten permission to use the rails.

· Library Text Messaging

o Ciera: Did you ask your constituents, any opinions?

§ Devon: Talked to Charlie, and said there is already stuff in place to take care of this, not sure if it is needed. Brought up there may be some communication errors.

§ Walker: Costs?

· Minimal costs to set up a phone line, 5 or 10 cents per texts to receive.

§ Grace: Can he use personal phone as a trial instead of setting up a phone line?

· I’m sure that’s an option.

§ Austin: Can you guarantee accuracy?

· If it’s a student, it will have to wait till the librarian is back. Could be delayed till morning if a text is sent late at night.

§ Walker: Is this a resource of everything or just the library?

· Only about the library.

§ Austin: What kind of questions?

· Anything about the library, like what books they have or what types of resources they contain, hours

§ Angela: I don’t think this will work. Students can call or walk there, it is close. Texting is just feeding laziness. Not necessary.

§ Walker: The library should have new technology flourishing. Trial period may be good.

§ Lauren: Can we see how the IM service is working? Maybe use that to gauge success.

VII. Action Items

· Hockey bill

o Haleigh: Can we pass on the pant covers and helmets to the future students?

§ Yes, potentially. The pant covers are sized differently. Helmets don’t really need to be, we will be receiving new helmets hopefully, just to be used for matching. Most likely will stick around. Not supposed to use a helmet for more than 4 seasons for safety reasons.

o D’Andre: We use football helmets for 4 years, can you?

§ Yeah, we want everything to match, will go for 4 years. Will most likely get rid of it after 4 years and get new.

o D’Andre: Can you refurbish?

§ It may cost more than it’s worth. They get too beat up. The biggest concern was to get new helmets for safety reasons, won’t prevent concussions. If a helmet is not cracked, it is probably okay.

o Austin: We use student fees, its not really fair to buy a senior a brand new helmet

§ If it’s a senior, it will be reused, as it probably won’t have too much wear on it. We can disinfect it.

o Nick: What is your policy if someone is given a uniform and doesn’t want to return it, will you keep everything?

§ Jerseys they keep (they were paid for by themselves). Pant covers and helmets we would get back if they weren’t too beat up. We would definitely want them back.

o Walker: This looks like a jumpstart for the club, I see it that if you make profits next year you can do as you wish with your money. Students didn’t seem to want to provide more money after this was provided. They want to see you become self-sustained and not be coming back year after year.

§ That is the game plan. Our goal is to try and to get on some better standards with the rink through volunteering our time to clean or do youth programs. We would like to see a WSC training club for kids. The GV Hockey Association has money to go the rink, the rink doesn’t get money from us. They don’t really care about the ice time that we give. We would like to help out the rink any way we can. The games were unfortunately got cancelled, only had 6 players from UCCS, didn’t want to waste money for officials. We threw in some money to be in a tournament instead. By being respected, more teams will want to be here and spend more money.

o Ciera: Have the rink and ref costs been paid already?

§ Paid monthly. Take the dues and fundraisers to pay for it.

o Austin: Motion to give $1500, D’Andre seconds.

VIII. Advisor Report

· Shelley: Jamie Case is going to be out for the next 3 weeks or almost a month. If you need anything just come find me. Also, register for classes!

IX. Committee Reports

· Ciera: Academic Policies Committee: We haven’t rewritten the policy for the graduation deal yet. Walking before as opposed to after? Also, we are starting to look into different calendar setups, J-Term, Week-long Thanksgiving, etc.

i. Shelley: Night classes! This is being tested at another college, classes are being held at midnight to determine if this may be effective for night-owl learners.

X. Advisory Reports

· Sabret: Semi-Annual music concert next Thursday. Volleyball won both games, football plays Saturday at 1PM. Cross County girls beat Adams State for first time in 9 years.

· Travis: Pool Tournament went well, 6 players. Dodgeball starts next week, starts Thursday night. After Thanksgiving break, open gym Tuesday and Thursday nights. Get the word out.

· Noah: Free ski and snowboard clinic, trip going on Thanksgiving, $150.

· Angela: Art Convocation 12:30, Thursday theater interest meeting in Keating at 5, Poetry slam at Gunnison art center 19^th

XI. Executive Reports

· Sarah: Weekly conference call with the rec center/ field house design team, incorporating a lot of what was discussed in the forums. Not finalized yet. Top Of the World, Alec brought up issues that student voices are muffled. I wrote back, saying SGA is a group of students elected by the student for the students, we want to listen! Constitution committee meets Monday at 8 PM! Politics club movie City of God 7 PM Kelley 116 the 18th. Tomorrow in the ballroom David Whyte, theater, tomorrow, leadership speaker, amazing!

· Jesse: Local election may be recalled. Quizno’s ProRide Competition, Gunnison won! This is a huge deal for Gunnison. If you have ideas to help entertain people, let Jesse know. Also, putting in new cell phone tower in Pitkin!

· Lauren: Sex positive red day is moved to after Thanksgiving break. Too much going on now. December 1 or 8^th. Student Initiated Responsible Party Club: could be called speakeasies. On Tuesday: Meet your members day, all day wearing SGA T-shirts from 8-8. Be there!

· Grace: Budget: 5,899. Now have 10,921.50 in bill money after the passage of the hockey bill.

· Devon: Who attended the volleyball game against NMHU? NM had very unsportsmanlike conduct and were extremely unprofessional. I wrote a strongly worded letter to athletic director and coach about this. They flipped off and heckled fans.

Western State Shred Fest

Whereas: The Western State Shred Fest is a family friendly event for people who love to ski and snowboard to come out and have fun. This is also a great event for spectators to come out and support the Western State Mountain Rescue and FreeRide Ski Team.

Whereas: The event will be held on December 2^nd starting at 5 P.M. on the Taylor Quad Lawn.

Whereas: Entry for the competitors is $10. There are estimated to be around 20 participants.

Whereas: $1,150 dollars has been raised in products and money from sponsors like Snowboard Magazine, MSP (CB), Poorboys Productions, Tenton Gravity, Rome, Me Clothing, Galvanic Design, and Campus Rail Jam Tours.

Whereas: All excess funds and entry fees are going to the Western State Mountain Rescue as well as allocating funds for next year’s event and the FreeRide Ski Team to maintain the rails.

Whereas: Mr. Jost is requesting $700 from the Student Government Association. This will be broken down as follows:
