Counseling Center

The Counseling Center Mental Health Services are provided by The Center for Mental HealthWe are located at the Campus Health Center-104 Tomichi Hall

THE COUNSELING CENTER IS CLOSED FOR SUMMER BREAK (MAY 10, 2013 TO AUGUST 26, 2013).  IF YOU ARE IN THE GUNNISON AREA AND YOU HAVE A MENTAL HEALTH EMERGENCY, PLEASE CALL EMERGENCY SERVICES 24 HOUR CRISIS AT 970-252-6220.  THE SUICIDE HOTLINE IS 1-800-273-8255.  Any questions, please call our Gunnison Office at 970-641-6592. 

Full-time students, faculty and staff are able to receive up to seven (7) free mental health counseling sessions each academic year.   (Additional mental health services may be referred).  

  • Counseling Services:   Counseling Services provide information and support to WSCU students, faculty and staff about any issue, including, but not limited to, adjustment, relationships, grief or loss, anxiety, depression, urgent consultation and crisis intervention.   

  • Counseling Center Hours:  The Counseling Center is open during the WSCU Academic Calendar.  (We are closed on Holidays, Vacations and University Breaks):

MONDAY through THURSDAY 8:30 am - 6:00 pm (Closed  12:30-1)

FRIDAY 9:00 am - 1 pm

  • Emergency and After Hours Phone Number:  (970) 252-6220 -  Please tell the answering service that you are from WSCU in Gunnison and need to speak with the Community Mental Health Emergency Professional on-call.  Give them your phone number and name and they should call you back within 15 minutes. Stay by the phone.  If you have not heard back from them in 15 minutes, call again.  You may also call 911 or go directly to the Gunnison Valley Hospital (711 N. Taylor Street).  (There may be charges for the hospital and lab)
