Scholarships

This information has been designed to assist you in applying for additional scholarships at Western State College.  As you read through the information, you will note there are a myriad of scholarships available.  We invite and encourage you to apply for any of the scholarships listed for which you believe you are eligible.


Western's Common Scholarship Application - Due April 15, 2010

Students may apply for multiple scholarships with one application known as Western's Common Scholarship Application.  Students are required to read through the descriptions of the Scholarships available on the application and check off any for which they feel they qualify.

The application and all components are due in the Financial Aid Department no later than April 15, 2010 for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Students should begin collecting the required documents for the application as soon as possible.  A complete application packet will include:

    • Western's Common Scholarship Application

    • A letter of recommendation or Recommendation Form from a teacher or WSC faculty member

    • A copy of your transcript (an unofficial copy is acceptable)

    • A personal statement addressing why you believe you are a good candidate for the scholarships you have selected.

        • Please Note: some scholarships request specific information as a requirement, please be sure to address any additional questions or requirements, not otherwise mentioned on the application.

%Scholarships available for those individuals who identify with underrepresented groups including Hispanic/Latino, Chicano, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Mexican American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Asian, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Filipino, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander.  The Boettcher Opportunity Award also includes single parents, non-traditional students, and veterans in the definition of under-represented student populations.

 Western does not guarantee that you will receive any of the scholarships listed.  Remember that even if you meet all the requirements for the scholarship(s) for which you are applying and your application is received in a timely manner, the scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis.  Availability, amounts and application procedures are subject to change and are based on the availability of funding.


Incoming Student Scholarships

Western State offers a number of scholarships to eligible incoming students.  Consideration for these awards is automatic and based on your application portfolio.  Information regarding these scholarships is available on the Admissions website, or by contacting the Admissions Office at (970)943-2119.


WSC Foundation Scholarships

The Nomination Process

Some scholarships are awarded through a nomination process by Western faculty or athletic coaches.  We encourage you to contact any and all individuals to solicit nominations for scholarships for which you believe you deserve consideration.

Western State College offers many other scholarships which have requirements other than those on "The Common Scholarship Application".  Most require a separate application or a letter to a certain individual or committee.  These scholarships and requirements are identified under the 'Descriptions and criteria' section below.

 

Additional Scholarship Opportunities

FastWeb is a FREE national online scholarship search program that can be used by prospective or current students, to find additional scholarships not directly available through Western State College.
