Tyler Daniels Named D2Football.com National Player of the Week
Oct. 1, 2009 -- Tyler Daniels, the RMAC/Rawlings Offensive Player of the Week, earned D2Football.com National Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors after his 481 yards of total offense during 38-19 victory at Western New Mexico last Saturday.
He shares the honor will Arkansas Tech’s Nick Graziana and Wayne State’s Silas Fluellen.
It’s the first such honor for a Mountaineer in program history. Daniels picked up his first career conference player of the week honor earlier this week.
Daniels posted the RMAC’s longest run of the season with a 74-yard run on Western State’s second play of the game to set up the first Mountaineer touchdown. On the next possession, he connected with Ryan Heagle for a 60-yard touchdown pass to put Western State ahead 14-0 eight minutes into the game.
Daniels added his second passing touchdown with a 27-yard completion to Shaun Suttorp in the second quarter and his third passing touchdown on an 11-yard pass to Miles Gorham in the third. He ended his day with a 56-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Daniels finished with 299 passing yards on 22 completions and 182 rushing yards. His rushing total is the second-best rushing total in the conference this season. It was the ninth-best Division II single-game performance for total offensive yards this season.
Daniels also completed his fifth collegiate start without an interception. Western State is one of four Division II teams without an interception this season.
Western State returns to home to face Fort Lewis in the 2009 Hall of Fame Game Oct. 3. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. from Mountaineer Bowl.
