Sept. 23, 2010 (by Chris Dickey, Gunnison Country Times) -- Alumni who are returning to Western State College for the first time in years for this weekend’s homecoming will no doubt recognize major changes in their alma mater. Chief among them will be the sweeping overhaul of campus that includes impressive new facilities, efficiently renovated academic buildings and a major face lift in the works to the college’s signature building, Taylor Hall.
Sept. 20, 2010 -- This weekend Western State College alumni will travel far and wide for the annual Homecoming celebration. This year’s Homecoming theme is “Super Western!”
Sept. 20, 2010 -- Violinist Max Rabinovitsj will collaborate with pianist Martha Violett of the Western State College (WSC) music faculty in a convocation and masterclass on Tuesday, Sept.21 at 12:30 p.m. and a concert on Thursday, Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
Growing with the Times; New Institute for Applied Sustainability offers hands-on Environmental Studies courses
Sept. 15, 2010 -- Environmental Studies at Western State College (WSC) is growing at such a rate that a new hands-on program, the Institute for Applied Sustainability (IAS) is being offered this semester.
Sept. 8, 2010 -- Erika Vohman, founder of the Maya Nut Institute, will present an overview of the Maya Nut and the Maya Nut Institute, which provides a new approach to rainforest conservation and poverty alleviation, at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14 in the south ballroom of the Western State College of Colorado (WSC) College Center.
Aug. 24, 2010 -- The Leslie J. Savage Library at Western State College of Colorado will host an encore presentation of “Beneath the Blue Mesa: The Gunnison River Valley before Blue Mesa Reservoir” at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28.

Master of Arts in Education Program Underway at Western; 94 students on campus for one-week intensive

July 28, 2010 -- Eighteen graduate students began studies in the new Creative Writing Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) program at Western State College (WSC) this past week.

July 20, 2010 -- On July 30-31, a select group of poets and critics from across the country will convene at Western State College of Colorado (WSC) in Gunnison for a conference on understanding, judging and teaching poetry.
July 13, 2010 -- The US Green Building Council announced last week that Kelley Hall is officially a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold certified building, a first for both the Gunnison Valley and the Western State College of Colorado (WSC) campus.
Western State College of Colorado (WSC) will host its 35th Annual Colorado Water Workshop from July 21 to 23 at the College Center. A separate, two-day seminar, “Colorado Water Law in a Nutshell,” also will be presented on July 20 and 21.
July 1, 2010 -- International travel writer, novelist and screenwriter Knud Kohr will read from his new novel, “In Cuxhaven,” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14 in the West Wing of the Savage Library at Western State College of Colorado (WSC). Swiss radio journalist, playwright and publisher Susann Sitzler also will be attending.
June 22, 2010 (by Julie Buckles, The Daily Press) -- There's more than one way to travel home. One could drive, fly, ride the rails or take a bus, for instance. Max Lindsey chose the mode less traveled and biked 1,450 miles — 315 of which he did in one 24-hour stretch — from Western State College of Colorado in Gunnison to his mother's house in Washburn, Wis.
WSC Board of Trustees Elect New Executive Members; Stephanie Foote appointed chair, Sandra Mark appointed vice chair
June 22, 2010 -- At its annual meeting on June 11, the Western State College of Colorado (WSC) board of trustees unanimously approved the election of Stephanie Foote of Denver as chairwoman and Sandra Mark of Gunnison as vice chairwoman.
