Dec. 21, 2010 -- It’s another cold Monday night in Gunnison, as adults and children step into the lighted warmth of the Gunnison Community School, shuck off coats and gloves, and sign in for evening English classes through the Gunnison Literacy Action Program.
This year’s Western State College Winter Commencement student speaker is Chandra Sheridan, a non-traditional student who has worked and raised a family (Paden, 3 years old, and Lilian, 3 months old) while earning straight A’s and completing her degree in business administration in 4 ½ years. As an environmental studies minor, Sheridan discovered her passion for sustainability and plans to remain in Gunnison and work on environmental initiatives with the community.
Western State College of Colorado (WSC) will confer bachelor’s degrees to 75 students participating in its 2010 Winter Commencement on Saturday, Dec. 18.

Nov. 17, 2010 -- On Thursday, Nov. 18 the WSC Jazz Ensembles will perform under the direction of Robert Barrett at 7:30 p.m. in the Quigley Recital Hall.
Nov. 11, 2010 -- Central City Opera (CCO) and University of Colorado (CU) Opera will perform at Western State College of Colorado (WSC) on Thursday, Nov. 11. The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Quigley Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public.
WSC Presents the 21st Annual Headwaters Conference, Nov. 12-14; A Resilient Headwaters: Skills for Re-Inhabiting Places
Nov. 1, 2010 -- At the 21st Annual Headwaters Conference hosted by Western State College of Colorado (WSC), speakers and participants will explore ways to maintain a resilient Headwaters region.
Oct. 20, 2010 -- Western State College of Colorado presents “An Evening with David Whyte,” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11 at the Prosser Theater in the College Center. This event is free and open to the public.

Lost, and then Found, in the Rubble: Taylor Hall renovations unearth some interesting historical finds

Chief among them will be the sweeping overhaul of campus that includes impressive new facilities, efficiently renovated academic buildings and a major face lift in the works to the college’s signature building, Taylor Hall.

Growing with the Times; New Institute for Applied Sustainability offers hands-on Environmental Studies courses
Sept. 15, 2010 -- Environmental Studies at Western State College (WSC) is growing at such a rate that a new hands-on program, the Institute for Applied Sustainability (IAS) is being offered this semester.
Sept. 8, 2010 -- Erika Vohman, founder of the Maya Nut Institute, will present an overview of the Maya Nut and the Maya Nut Institute, which provides a new approach to rainforest conservation and poverty alleviation, at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14 in the south ballroom of the Western State College of Colorado (WSC) College Center.
