60th Annual Firemen’s Concert Series
Feb. 22, 2012 -- The 60th Annual Firemen’s Concert Series will begin on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. The Host Night Gala Concert will feature the Western State College of Colorado (WSC) Symphony Band, conducted by John Wacker and the WSC Modern Jazz Combo, directed by Robert Barrett.
The second concert of the series will be on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. This concert will feature the WSC Colorado Brass Band conducted by Steve Asheim and Rebecca Gillespie and the All-Colorado Honor Band conducted by Philip C. Chevallard and John Wacker.
The Firemen’s Concert Series will continue on Thursday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. with the Vocal Music Department Showcase. Performing will be the WSC Concert Choir and WSC Chamber Singers both conducted by Heather Roberson. Also featured will be WSC student ensembles.
The final concert of this series will be on Saturday, March 10 at 2 p.m. with the Western Slope Choral Festival. This concert will feature the Director’s Choir conducted by Daryl Gingrich, the Women’s Honor Choir conducted by Tamra Cochra and the Mixed Honor Choir directed by Eric Foley.
All events will be held in Taylor Auditorium and admission is by donation to the Gunnison Volunteer Fire Department.
Other Upcoming Performances
WSC music students will perform on a Student Recital Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 12:30 p.m. Performing on this recital will be Dakota Brown, baritone; Stephen Cappella, marimba; Stephanie Grote, flute; Kali Sheldon, soprano and tuba; and Erin Wright, flute.
Also on Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. will be a Faculty Artist Recital with Robert Barrett, saxophone; Martha Violett, piano; and the WSC Saxophone Quartet.
Both events will be held in Quigley Recital Hall and are free and open to the public.
