Black History Month Events

Check out the events WSCU's Black Student Alliance will be hosting in honor of Black History Month.

WSCU’s Black Student Alliance (BSA) will be hosting events throughout the month of February in honor of Black History Month. Please join them on February 5th in the University Center South Ballroom at 6:30 P.M to kick-off their Black History Month Celebration! A candlelight vigil will be held in commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King to reflect upon the values Dr. King has taught us and to celebrate the life of a great civil rights hero! A reenactment of the famous “I Have a Dream” speech will kick-off this event, followed by a video tribute, reflection, and moment of silence.

Following the vigil, the film “Something the Lord Made” will be played. This film tells the remarkable story of two men – an ambitious white surgeon and a gifted black carpenter turned lab technician – who defied the racial strictures of the Jim Crow South and together pioneered the field of heart surgery. A panel discussion will follow the film.
