DESCRIPTION:Karina Hean’s drawings revel in the visual pleasure of m
 oments in the landscape and a connection with place\, both real and in
 vented.    Many of the drawings describe structures\, which bracket or
  support organic masses\; a reference to nature’s order\, seen speci
 fically in mineral structures.  The contained\, roiling\, and often ch
 aotic subjects appear as living storms\, momentarily suspended.  Selec
 ting\, recombining\, and embellishing specimens from nature’s comple
 xity interests me as a means to present emotional metaphors while also
  enjoying the beauty of light\, form\, and land.  These imagined lands
 capes are un-traversable spaces but are drawn from moving through and 
 observing nature daily.\n \nArtist Karina Noel Hean is based in Santa 
 Fe\, NM and teaches at the Santa Fe University of Art and Design.  She
  has served on the faculty at the University of Montana\, Fort Lewis C
 ollege\, and New Mexico State University and holds a BA from St. Johns
  College\, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate from Studio Art Centers In
 ternational\, and an MFA from New Mexico State University.  Karina wor
 ks as the Associate Sales & Gallery Director at Selby Fleetwood Galler
 y\, has worked with SITE Santa Fe in exhibitions and education\, and M
 aryland Hall for the Creative Arts as the Visual Arts Coordinator.
