(L-R) Teammates Brittany Perkins, Ali Gulick, and Heidi Lovett at a recent competition in BreckenridgeSki Competition Still Alive at Western

Ski competition is still alive at Western State College. And soon, snowboarding competition will be as well.

The WSC club ski team has already competed in Nordic events, and alpine competition will kick off this January with the team travelling to Telluride. The Nordic team participated in the Gold Run Classic in Breckenridge, Colo. earlier this month.

The WSC club ski team was quickly launched after the WSC ski team was cut due to budget constraints. Eric Grand, who is the coach for the team, feels that in a positive way more students will be able to be involved with WSC skiing.

Grand, who graduated from Western in 2004, will also be the coach for the club snowboard team, which is in the beginning stages. Those interested in the club snowboard team can contact Grand at egrand@western.edu.

Also check out www.western.edu/clubsports to find out more information about both teams.

The Peter Terbush Memorial Outdoor Leadership Summit offers a unique program specially designed for leaders in outdoor recreation. The Summit memorializes Peter Terbush who died a hero on June 13, 1999. Peter's last act was to save the life of his friend and climbing partner by maintaining a proper belay, even in the face of a rock slide that took his life.  The Summit takes its primary mission from Peter's life: it is through service to others that we realize our full potential.
