Sen. Dan Gibbs Biography

Colorado State Sen. Dan Gibbs represents Senate District 16, “the heart of Colorado,” which includes Summit, Grand, Gilpin, Clear Creek, and western parts of Jefferson and Boulder counties. Prior to his service in the State Senate, Gibbs served in the Colorado House of Representatives for House District 56.

Gibbs was recently elected to the Summit County Board of County Commissioners and will take office in January of 2011.

In the State Senate, Gibbs serves as the chair of the Senate Transportation Committee and is a member of the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.

Since being elected to the Colorado State Legislature in 2006, Gibbs has worked tirelessly to bring a collaborative approach to some of Colorado’s most pressing issues, including the economy, education, transportation and forest health.
Gibbs is a certified willdland firefighter and is affiliated with the ROSS system in which he is on-call to fight wildfires throughout the U.S. and Canada. 

A resident of Breckenridge, Colo., Gibbs serves on numerous civic boards and committees including SOS Outreach, CASA of the Continental Divide, Habitat for Humanity of Colorado, and the National Assembly of Sportsman Caucuses. He is a member of the Summit Rotary Club, The Elks Club, Ducks Unlimited and helps coach the Summit Nordic Ski Club.

Gibbs is a graduate of Western State College of Colorado with a B.A. in sociology. At Western, he worked for Wilderness Pursuits, the children’s center and the campus computer center. He also coached the Gunnison Valley Nordic Team.
