How do I connect to the WSCU encrypted wireless network?

 

 

We are pleased to offer a secure wireless network connection to our campus. All access to local campus resources will only be allowed on the secure wireless. We will continue to provide open wireless connections in the near future, but we strongly discourage the use of open wireless. Please see below for instruction on how to connect to the Western secure wireless.


Setup:

 

Windows XP

Windows XP:

For Windows XP we offer an automated configuration tool that will perform all of the following steps automatically.

Manual Configuration Steps:

Step 1: Right click the wireless icon in the lower right system tray and select view wireless networks.

Step 2: Click the change advanced settings text.

Step 3: Remove any entries to wireless networks referring to Western and then click the Add button.

Step 4: In the network name (SSID) box type in Western, network authentication is WPA2 and data encryption is AES. If these options are not available to you see the prerequisites for secure wireless at the beginning of this section.

Step 5: Click the network authentication tab.

Step 6: Click the drop down box for EAP type and select Protected EAP (PEAP).

Step 7: Click the properties button.

Step 8: Make sure the validate server certificate check box is checked.

Step 9: Select Equifax secure certificate authority in the trust root certification authorities, and confirm that the authentication method is Secured Password (EAP-MSCHAPv2).

Step 10: Select the configure button .

Step 11: Make sure the Automatically use my Windows logon name and password box is unchecked.

Step 12: Click the balloon and enter your campus logon credentials.

 

Windows Vista/Windows 7:

Select Western from the list of wireless networks.

Enter your campus username and password. (Domain is WSC)

Accept the equifax certificate authority certificate to connect.

 

Mac OS X:

Select Western from the list of secure networks.

Enter your campus username and password.

Accept the equifax certificate authority certificate to connect.
