Campus Computing Account

Students receive a campus computing account that allows them to log on to Western Online, access computers in the computer labs and use the wireless network.

Every student is given a student drive with a quota of 250 MB that is available while they are attending Western. Students can access their student drives from any campus computer lab by using the shortcut on the desktop or from off campus by going through the My Files tab in WOL.

Your campus computing account username is your Western State College identification number which is printed on your WSC student identification card (stuxxxxxx).  The default password will be provided by letter when you are accepted. Before using your account for the first time, you should enroll in the online password reset tool.

Western OnLine

Western OnLine (WOL) is Western State College's online portal. From WOL you can register for classes, see your schedule, pay your bill, get your unofficial transcript and see your tax information.  Use your campus computing account to log in.

MyCourses

Some of your courses may have an online component.  These courses are handled through our Blackboard learning management system. You can access Blackboard by going to http://mycourses.western.edu/. If you are having difficulty accessing Blackboard from your personal comptuer, please see our Using MyCourses page.

MyFiles

The MyFiles tool allows you access to your files in your Student Drive and most files from Teacher Folders from off campus via the Internet. For instructions visit our Off Campus Access page.  You can access MyFiles from a tab in WOL or from https://access.western.edu.  Don't use this feature while using campus comptuers, instead go directly to your student drive and teacher folders via links on your desktop.

Email

Email is available for all students and is activated once you register for classes.  Student email at Western is hosted by Google and is available at MadJack Mail

Use your campus computing account username and password to access your email.  Email addresses are usually in the format firstname.lastname@western.edu, however there can be name conflicts, so be sure to check when you log in to Madjack Mail.

POP/IMAP are available as well as the ability to migrate your email to your Alumni email account by going here.

Student Helpdesk

Run by students for students, the Student Helpdesk is your main resource for getting computing answers on campus. Passwords don't work? Can't get connected to the internet? Don't know how to get a paper to print double-sided? Your computer is just plain broken? Visit the Helpdesk!

Internet & Network Access

If you are living on campus, each residence hall room provides access to the network via a wired or wireless connection. Read More about connectivity types & requirements in the residence halls, including information on using online gaming consoles.

Wireless access is also available in all academic buildings and most outdoor common areas.  There are two wireless networks available on campus.  College Campus WiFi is the unsecure wireless network available to students and guests.  Western is the secure wireless network that uses your login information to encrypt your data and is recommended by Computer Services. For more information on how to connect, visit Network Access Requirements.

Computer Labs

Western State College maintains a number of student computing labs. The computers in these labs contain all the software that is used during course instruction. You can also access the Internet and email from these facilities. These labs are maintained largely through funding from the Student Computer Fee.

Printing is available in almost all computer labs on campus.  Each student is given a 600 page quota each semester.   Read more about the print policy at Western.

Personal Computers

Many students choose to bring their own computer to campus. Although this is not necessary, we do try to make integrating personal computers into our technology environment as simple as possible.  There are a few requirements, so if you are bringing a computer you already have or are planning on purchasing one, make sure to review our personal computer recommendations and requirements.
