The William E. Dorgan Memorial Math Scholarship
The Dorgan Scholarship provides up to full tuition assistance (not including fees) to a Western State Colorado University student who is a Colorado resident and has declared a major in mathematics.
The scholarship honors William Dorgan, a long time Mathematics professor at Western State Colorado University. It was established by Professor Dorgan's daughter, Roberta Dorgan Beckman and her husband Dennis.
Professor Dorgan came to Western State Colorado University in 1951, joining the faculty as an Assistant Professor. He taught at Western State Colorado University for thirty years, retiring as a full professor in 1980.
University President Dr. Harry Peterson said "The Dorgan Scholarship is a great tribute to him for his outstanding service to Western State Colorado University. There are many deserving students whose education will be made possible through this generous gift."
Applicants for the scholarship must:
- be a full-time student.
- have declared a mathematics major.
- maintain academic eligibility with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Interested individuals should complete and return the Standard Scholarship Application from the Office of Financial Aid by April 1 of each year. Students may also apply for this award through the Department of Mathematics/Computer Information Science Department.
