Panel 2: River Partnerships
Moderated by George Sibley, this panel will explore the "unexpected partnerships" that are emerging in just the Upper Gunnison River watersheds over issues of water use - historically the most contentious arena of resource management issues throughout the West. We will look at specific situations on the streams in the Crested Butte area, on the Taylor River, and on other Upper Gunnison River tributaries, from the perspectives of both private enterprise and the public interest. The panelists are:
- Anthony Poponi, Executive Director, Coal Creek Watershed Coalition (maintaining, restoring and enhancing the
environmental integrity of Crested Butte's local watersheds and their water quality)
- Matt Brown, Scenic River Tours (a rafting company working on the Taylor and Gunnison Rivers)
-
Diane Merriott, owner-manager, Taylor Park Marina (marina serving the public on the reservoir in Taylor Park)
-
Frank Kugel, General Manager, Upper Gunnison River Water Conservancy District (an organization dedicated to
leadership in the legal, policy and management issues affecting the water resources of the Upper Gunnison
River Basin)
