Public Lands Day

Many students are drawn to Western State College because of its proximity to great recreational opportunities. Hartman Rocks, one of the most popular destinations for mountain bikers, hikers, cross-country skiers, and runners, offers endless recreational opportunities. Working with the Bureau of Land Management, Western students constructed new trails, repaired old ones, planted native vegetation and educated community members on the importance of proper trail use and management, the Bureau of Land Management, and our public land system. Their work has ensured that the beauty and ecological health of Hartman Rocks remain for generations to come.
