Western State Colorado University Professional Activity Fund is available to assist faculty as they conduct professional activities. For the purposes here, professional activity is defined as it is in Section 3.08.III.C of the Handbook for Professional Personnel
Professional activity includes, but is not limited to: engagement with the novel; research; publishing; professional presentations; artistic endeavors; attending professional conferences; grant writing; representing faculty at regional, state, national organizations; and official capacities within professional associations. Professional activity should be directed toward improving classroom teaching, involving students in research and scholarly activity, or enhancing the reputation of the University. Emphasis should be on activities that keep teaching current and valid.

Following the deadline for submission, proposals are reviewed by the Center for Teaching Excellence Council. The council will make recommendations for award to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the President of Western State Colorado University. Proposals may be fully funded, partially funded, or not funded. Note: We are unable to fund retroactively so be sure you submit a proposal before your intended professional development activity.

Post Award Grant Reporting Requirements:
Successful awardees are required to provide an electronic copy of a brief report of project outcomes within one month following the end of their proposed activities to the Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence. The report should include a summary of activities and outcomes of the award and information that can be used in a press release or Western Publication. A final report must be filed electronically following the guidelines provided below before you can he considered for another award.
Professional Activity Fund Priorities:
Projects that enhance the University's ability to grow endowments may be given priority
Projects that enhance the reputation and visibility of faculty scholarship and the university as a place for teaching and learning may be given priority.
Projects that have full or partial matching support through grant funds, foundations fund, or department operating or travel funds may be given priority.
Professional Activity Fund Grant Application Format
Proposals must follow the requested format to be considered for funding. Submission is a two step process.
The first step is to submit one hard copy that includes the Professional Activity Fund Summary page with required signatures to Maria Struble. The second step is to submit one electronic copy of the proposal, as one document, to
. This electronic version of your applications should be included as an attachment with a brief email.
Please order the sections of the grant as follows:
A. Professional Activity Fund Summary Page. Please use the form attached below. This form requires signatures of both the applicant and the department chair or director.
B. Narrative (not to exceed three pages in length).
i. Describe the purpose of the grant in a brief statement of the issue to be addressed, who will it benefit and how.
ii. If applicable, state the relationship of the proposal to the Professional Activity Fund Priorities.
iii. Include a timeline showing a start date, fund expenditures and project Activity.
C. Budget. Please include a detailed budget. The budget must include all expenses, including non-PAF contributions subsidizing your academic activity. The amount and the source of available matching or in-kind contributions must be documented. Please include a chart as a guide. There is a sample budget sheet on page four of this document.
D. Applicant(s) resume. Include a one-page abbreviated resume for the applicant9s).
The electronic copy sent should include sections B, C, and D, in a single document.
