Up one level
I was actually really hesitant to visit Western when I was in high school but as soon as I stepped foot in Gunnison and on Western's campus I fell in love. The campus is beautiful and the class sizes are so small. I am really involved in the theatre program and it was important that I went to a school in which my talents could be highlighted and I could learn hands on from others. Western offers that to me. I was born and raised in Colorado Springs, CO. When I came here, I fell in love with the small town and the relaxed environment. I wanted to be academically challenged and discover myself in social settings at the same time. I can go to class and go skiing in the same day!
I am the President of Spectrum, the Secretary and Vice President of the Politics Club, and I am involved in all the theatre productions and numerous films. I am also in Awkward Fiction, Western's improv troupe. I have been an Orientation Leader for two years now. I plan on continuing to join clubs and activities on campus that pique my interest.
I have been involved in every theatre production WSCU has put on since Fall of 2011. The plays/musicals I have acted in include Shipwrecked, the 2011 and 2012 24 Hour Play Festival, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, The One Acts, Awkward Fiction the improv troupe, and Arabian Nights. I have been fortunate enough to act in films at Western as well, including the films HoleSale Real-estate, Elimination, a piece about peer pressure, and a sexual assault film, and various short films for Awkward Fiction. I love being involved with productions in any way. I have helped build sets and I work in the costume shop.
I plan on going into events management or public relations after I graduate. I have a Political Science minor and I would love to work for a political grassroots organization for a few years to gain some experience in both communications and politics.
Karen Waidley is my favorite professor on campus. She has been such an inspiration to me throughout my academic career at WSCU. Her classes are challenging and she drives intellectual discussions that force me to think outside of my comfort zone. My favorite class that I have taken at Western was a political theatre class.
