About Eric

  • OLRM Major
  • CORE Costa Rica, Spring 2009

Eric’s perspective on the Western State College CORE program and why he would recommend students to participate:

I would definitely recommend the program to students, especially if they were Outdoor Leadership and Resort Management majors. It’s a good opportunity to be hands-on and pick up some skills and certifications along the way. How many other colleges offer a program like this, where you can get open- water dive certified, horseback riding experience, climb the tallest mountain in the country where you can see both the Caribbean and the Pacific on a clear day, and learn a new language all while getting college credit? The CORE program is a unique learning experience, I recommend that every freshman applies to the CORE program because it is such a valuable experience that they will remember for the rest of their life.

Eric compares and contrasts the CORE program to a “normal” semester at Western State College:

I really enjoyed the semester and would like to do it again. Costa Rica is a cool country and I’m very glad that I was able to join CORE and study down there.

"I can’t wait to apply the knowledge that I learned down in Costa Rica to my job as a backpacking guide, I think that it will be very beneficial to both me and to my clients. "
